Looking for a nice 2 day circular walk in South West?

Hello! I'm from Gloucester and I'd really like to do a little walk with an overnight. Something like Shug does, park the car and walk! Either hammock in the woods or get a campsite, though I'd rather not pay because then I might as well park at the camp site and walk from and then back to the camp site to sleep.

Are there any suggestions?

The South-West is a big area, fancy narrowing that down a bit?
What sort of mileage are you looking at?

I've done some bits of the South West Coast Path and used a bus to get back to the start point.
Got some circular ones on The Beacons, Exmoor and Dartmoor.

Well I'm in Gloucester and I don't mind driving a couple of hours! Maybe around 10 miles, depends on things like terrain and parking/transport.

What did you do and how was finding a place to hang?

Your two hour limit rules out most of the SW coast path, Dartmoor and Exmoor!
But the Beacons and the Forest of Dean are within your reach.

You will have to stealth camp, but that's rarely tricky. Look for public footpaths that run through woodlands. That at least gives you the right to be there (if not to camp), and you rarely have to stray far from a path in a wood to become invisible. Generally folk don't go wandering in the woods after dark, so if you are not perfectly hidden you'll be fine if you pitch late and leave early.
To research routes I use OS maps to identify paths and woods, then go to Google Earth to have a good look. The size of trees can be gauged by the length of shadow they cast and the size of each trees canopy from above.

In addition to looking for circular routes, consider using public transport to top and tail a linear route.

Tell me more abour the Dartmoor and Exmoor paths! Thanks for all the great info! Any particular walks you've done in the Forest of Dean?
