If you've just joined Hammock-UK, say hi and introduce yourself to the other members, you can be assured of a warm welcome.

Tell us a little bit about yourself, what you get up to and what you get up to in your hammock (keep it clean!).

Right, I guess I'd better start this off.
I'm Paul, often called Gadget online (and sometimes in real life too).
I live in North Devon, and being a firefighter brings home the bacon.
I got my first little lounging hammock in 2007 (Lidl, £7.99), and went about finding novel ways to hang it using the one tree in my garden.
Then in 2012, I discovered the idea of camping hammocks via DD Hammocks and bought one of their very first Modular hammocks, with the intention of doing some cycle camping (reliving my youth).
From there I dove deeper into camping hammocks, finding out about the myriad lightweight options available, from the US forums.
I now have more hammocks than is reasonable, probably could cobble together half a dozen full camping setups. My go-to rig is pretty much all DIY, a plain 11' gathered end hammock, a 11.5' winter tarp, a full length down underquilt and a UKHammocks down topquilt.
In recent years, I've got seriously into lightening my packload. For my first hammock weekend hike my pack weight was 18kg! Got that to a more manageable 8kg now, via the wonders of down and lightweight materials (and no small part, plain rationalisation).

Started up this forum with the hope it becomes a useful resource for hammockers here in the UK. I am aware there a number of Facebook groups dedicated to hammocking, they are great for chat, but a bit of a black hole when it comes to searching for useful info (there is a limited number of times I want to answer the same old questions).

It seems like I'm the first foreigner here. Smile
I'm Thomas aka Mittagsfrost from Germany, member of the german hammock forum (haengemattenforum.de) and of course hammockforums.net.
My first hammock was a Hennessy Expedition Asym Classic (the one with the "birth channel"). Later I switched to a Hexon 1.0 double layer from Dutch and now I sleep every night in a Warbonnet Blackbird XLC or in one of my DIY hammocks.
I'm glad to see Gadget is here. Love your videos and the way you explain your experiments!

Hi I'm Angus or Goose or even Mr Goose if we are being formal.
I live in Windsor and generally hammock camp.in Snowdonia the Brecon beacons and even locally or in the chilterns.
My first hammock was a hennesy asym zip. And I've moved onto DIY projects from there using various materials.

Well I'm currently dying some nice lime green ripstop nylon from point north to a less garish colour. I'll post the results once I'm done.
