If you've just joined Hammock-UK, say hi and introduce yourself to the other members, you can be assured of a warm welcome.

Tell us a little bit about yourself, what you get up to and what you get up to in your hammock (keep it clean!).

Right, I guess I'd better start this off.
I'm Paul, often called Gadget online (and sometimes in real life too).
I live in North Devon, and being a firefighter brings home the bacon.
I got my first little lounging hammock in 2007 (Lidl, £7.99), and went about finding novel ways to hang it using the one tree in my garden.
Then in 2012, I discovered the idea of camping hammocks via DD Hammocks and bought one of their very first Modular hammocks, with the intention of doing some cycle camping (reliving my youth).
From there I dove deeper into camping hammocks, finding out about the myriad lightweight options available, from the US forums.
I now have more hammocks than is reasonable, probably could cobble together half a dozen full camping setups. My go-to rig is pretty much all DIY, a plain 11' gathered end hammock, a 11.5' winter tarp, a full length down underquilt and a UKHammocks down topquilt.
In recent years, I've got seriously into lightening my packload. For my first hammock weekend hike my pack weight was 18kg! Got that to a more manageable 8kg now, via the wonders of down and lightweight materials (and no small part, plain rationalisation).

Started up this forum with the hope it becomes a useful resource for hammockers here in the UK. I am aware there a number of Facebook groups dedicated to hammocking, they are great for chat, but a bit of a black hole when it comes to searching for useful info (there is a limited number of times I want to answer the same old questions).

It seems like I'm the first foreigner here. Smile
I'm Thomas aka Mittagsfrost from Germany, member of the german hammock forum (haengemattenforum.de) and of course hammockforums.net.
My first hammock was a Hennessy Expedition Asym Classic (the one with the "birth channel"). Later I switched to a Hexon 1.0 double layer from Dutch and now I sleep every night in a Warbonnet Blackbird XLC or in one of my DIY hammocks.
I'm glad to see Gadget is here. Love your videos and the way you explain your experiments!

Well I'm currently dying some nice lime green ripstop nylon from point north to a less garish colour. I'll post the results once I'm done.

I thought I would introduce myself to the site and say hello.
I'm currently sat in my DIY Tensahedron Hammock stand under a tarp, in my Kammok Roo Hammock while it's blowing a gale

I have my AMOK Draumr XL on order and can't wait till next April till it arrives

In my mean time my next DIY project is a Bridge Hammock

It's great to find a UK Hammock forum. Can I ask you guys where you think the best place to buy Amsteel from for my DIY Bridge hammock project please?
Also I have just posted a picture of my Version of the Tensahedron stand in the DIY section

markinsol, welcome to the forum, send Brian a message at Henge Hammocks I'm sure he can sort you out with Amsteel. Go direct via the FB page and avoid the Ebay charges.

Hola Meadows,

Henge Hammocks is selling Amsteel cheaper than DD (and it's the latest type)....

"...AmSteel®️-Blue (7/64”/2.5mm diameter) at the lowest price in the UK until further notice.

Ten metres will now cost you only £9.80 posted when buying through this Facebook site. If you require more, each additional metre is only £0.89 per metre. Send us a PM of how much you require and we can send you a PayPal invoice for the purchase. This applies to all the colours we stock, Black, Silver, Green, Red, Blue and Yellow.

We only sell the latest version of AmSteel®️-Blue 7/64” made with the latest Dyneema®️ SK-78 fibres...."

Drop Brian an email at hengehammocks@gmail.com if you don't do FaceBook.

Cheers
Steve

P.S. NOTE TO MODS - Paul feel free to move this to a more appropriate thread..  I blame markinsol and Meadows for high jacking your sticky post.....Nothing to do with me Guv' honest Very Happy Very Happy

I've bought from these guys in previous group buys,
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free-Shipping-Paraglider-Winch-Rope-UHMWPE-Braid-12-strand-2-5mm-1500lb-50m-Spectra/32801729635.html?spm=a2g0s.8937460.0.0.52172e0e4v5pQ9
Works out at 53p/metre.
I might do another group buy next month.
